Once or twice a year, the Knoxville Modern Quilt Guild embraces a “mini quilt challenge.” This is a chance for guild members to stretch themselves through new artistic choices and skills. Our winter mini challenge, “Shades of Winter” had only two parameters: the finished piece must be 20 by 20 inches and be composed only of blues, grays, blacks, and whites. Within the finished pieces, viewers will find attributes of modern quilting, including high contrast of color, minimalism, maximalism, improvisational piecing, use of negative space, and modern takes on traditional quilt designs.
On display in the DENSO and La Dolce Vita Galleries through December 20. Galleries are open Monday-Friday from 10am to 4pm or before/during Clayton Center events.
