Asian Culture Center of TN partnered with the Consulate-General of Japan in Nashville. We are very excited to bring the Superlative Artistry of Japan. Come and enjoy this traveling art exhibition.
This exhibition presents a cohesive collection of works and materials from various different genres that each place great emphasis on highly skilled techniques, ingenious expressions and concepts, and a high level of perfection that take viewers by surprise. Introducing elaborate Meiji era (1868 – 1912) kogei works that played a significant role in initiating the Japonism trend in 19th century Europe as a starting point. Thus, this exhibition captures Japan’s creative culture and monozukuri spirit through the theme of “superlative artistry,” which refers to the exceptional methods and techniques used. Starting with the craft works from the Meiji era, the exhibition features 38 items across a wide range of genres, including contemporary art, craft works, food samples, and shokugan (small toys sold with candy).
